Employment on the basis of work permit might be taken by a foreigner who resides in Poland on the basis of*:
1. visa**;
2. procedure visa, if immediately before issuing a procedure visa a foreigner was entitled to work in Poland;
3. residence permit for a fixed period of time, with certain exceptions;
4. uniform visa or other residence permit issued by any another Schengen State;
5in visa free traveling, if agreements on visa free traveling anticipate the possibility of foreigners’ employment
For carrying out work without permission a foreigner may be a subject to a fine of 1000 PLN***

**with the exception of visas: a single transit visa, a uniform residence or domestic visa issued for touristic reasons, arrival on humanitarian grounds, due to national interest or international obligations, a visa issued to participate in asylum procedure, a procedure visa: national visas for the investigation on the extension of visa, a domestic visa for a period of procedure to grant residence permit for a fixed period, a national visa for the period of procedure to grant settlement or a long-term residence permit (Article 87 of the Act on promotion of employment and market institutions work (Journal of Laws 2008 No. 69 item. 415, with amendments.).
