Customs inspection applies to accompanying animals in the number of 5 which are transported in non-trading aims. In case of more than 5 animals or when they are transported in trading aims (regardless their amount), a border vet inspection in obligatory. If an animal is travelling by plane without its owner, a border vet inspection is always obligatory. When travelling with a pet, you can cross only a border with vet inspection point!

Legal basis
The Regulation of The Agricultural and Rural Development Ministry from 17.04.2007 regarding the list of border crossing points where customs bodies execute inspections of domestic pets travelling with people in non-trade aims.
Dogs, cats and ferrets not older than 3 months can not be transported to other the EU countries unless target country’s regulations allow it. In case of other animals, national regulations are in force.

NOTE! If it is revealed during an inspection that import requirements are not met, then after consultations with an official veterinarian, appropriate body decides whether to deport an animal to its country of origin, to isolate an animal at official inspection (at the cost of an owner or responsible person) until required obligations are met or to slay an animal (with no compensation) if deportation and quarantine are not possible. |
