The fundamental thing about travelling with a reduced ticket is the necessity of presenting a document entitling to the discount.. Pupils, BA, MA and Ph.D. students, as well as engineering students are entitled to 50% fare reduction, until the age of 26. In case of the Polish schools, the document entitling to a fare reduction is a valid student's identity card. In case of foreign colleges, schools and universities, it is the valid ISIC (International Student Identity Card).
Pupils are also entitled to the reduced fare, but only in the case of the Polish schools. Using a reduced ticket without a valid document entitling to a discount, is liable to a 120 PLN fine (+ the fare price). The fine is reduced by 30% (meaning to 84 PLN) if one pays on the spot, or within 7 days from the day of receiving.
It may happen that one owns the document but simply does not have it at the moment of inspection, in which case one is obliged to present it within 7 days in one of the passenger service points. In that case the fine would be cancelled and one will have to pay only the handling fee of 14 PLN.
