What to do in order to make our ticket valid for the ride?

A ticket that looks like a small card needs to be punched in a validating machine. Ticket-punching machines on buses and trams are located near the exits, and are yellow. Above the machine there is usually an illustrated manual of how to use it, showing how to insert a ticket. The ticket should be inserted with the magnetic strip down into the opening on the front of the validating machine and then released freely to go automatically inside. If a correct ticket has been inserted, after a while it is returned, a green light illuminates and a short beep sounds. The display shows the expiry date of the validity period of the seasonal ticket, or message "PRZYJEMNEJ JAZDY" (HAVE A NICE JOURNEY) if a single fare ticket has been validated.

The ticket has been correctly validated and can be collected from the opening in the validating machine. Ticket will have current date and the time imprinted on it (or the expiry date, in case of temporary and the short-term tickets). It may happen that the date will not be imprinted. However if the green light went on, it means that the ticket is valid. If we use the municipal card, then to make the new ticket, that was coded on it, to be valid, we have to place the card card should be placed in front of the validating machine and held until the validating machine responses.

The display shows a message informing about the end of the ticket validity period.  and the green light goes on. It means, that one may use the card with no need of re-activating it during the time of the validity of the ticket that was coded on that card. If we forget the expiry date, we may place the card close to the electronic validating machine and the date will be displayed. The validating machine will notify us with a yellow light, a double beep and by displaying the expiry date, about the fact that our ticket will expire soon. Because of the sensitivity of the machines, it sometimes happen that they detect the card we have in our pocket or a bag, and start to beep. Validating machines are also located  near the entrance gates to the underground. The gates get open by inserting a ticket, and they validate it at the same time. In case of the proximity cards you should  the  card should be placed in front of the machine . Behind the entrance gates (even if you do not take the underground, but you solely stand on the platform), you have to have  a valid ticket.
