In case when our translator proves to be dishonest, firstly you should not accept the translation and demand a written explanation. You can also write a complaint to the Sworn Translator Division of the Ministry of Justice, including the name and surname of the translator describing your doubts regarding translation's quality. You can base your complaint on the Sworn Translator Code.
The Sworn Translator Code is the basis of translators’ professional ethics. The code states that any gaps within a sentence or a paragraph should be kept if they constitute blanks in forms (§22).
Possible penalties for dishonest translators include reprimands, rebukes, suspensions or divestiture of professional rights. All penalties are noted in translator’s register and can be deleted in three years maximum. Such period is extended by two more years if proceedings regarding professional responsibility of a translator starts during first three years.
It is the Board of Professional Responsibility that is responsible for proceedings regarding professional responsibility. Some sworn translators are also members of the Polish Society of Sworn and Specialized Translators (TEPIS). If you suspect a translator of dishonest practice, you can threaten him for filing the case TEPIS (there is an arbitration of fellow worker’s system at the society).
