The government of Poland is granting students and trainees scholarships pursuant to bilateral agreements. The holders of the of the Republic of Poland scholarships can study in Poland for free. International agreements determine annual limits of places. The scholarship is being granted for each year of studies by the period not longer than determined by the university senate, duration of the given studies or trainings. The scholarship can also be granted for the period shorter than one academic year.
Scholarships are granted by the Minister for National Education. The Educational and the International Exchange Office (BUWiWM [Biuro Uznawalności Wykształcenia i Wymiany Międzynarodowej]) deals with the administrative handling of scholarships. Persons applying for the scholarship of the government of Poland should turn to Polish diplomatic posts abroad. BUWiWM is directing requests for accepting grant holders at the University in Warsaw.

The amount of the scholarship of the government of Poland on undergraduate and master studies is changeable - in academic year 2007/2008 it amounted to 850 PLN per month. Scholarships are being paid directly to grant holders by units, in which these persons are undergoing studies and trainings. Financial resources for scholarships are being refunded for universities supervised by the Minister with the help of the BUWiWM, from the part of the budget, for which is a disposer. The scholarship is being paid in months in which the course of studies is held, not longer than for the period of 10 months in the academic year. Where justified, the minister can take a decision of paying the scholarship in months free from classes.
In case of obtaining a permit for the extension of the educating period in the Republic of Poland by the grant holder, the Minister can award a scholarship for the remaining period of the education. The minister can also prolong paying the scholarship also after completion of the education, but for not longer than 3 months.
Persons preparing Master's theses are entitled to the allowance of the scholarship
Foreigners, the holders of the Card of the Pole, are authorized to undergo studies at public schools on the same principles as Polish citizens. They can also apply for scholarships and other help meant for foreigners - act from 7th September 2007 about the Card of the Pole (Journal of Laws from 2007 No. 180, pos. 1280 recently amended)
There are international relation offices at the universities that help students to complete formalities.
