Information for migrants about Poland

Conditions of undertaking the higher education by foreigners in Poland

Foreigners can be accepted for studies, if:

  • they are holding a visa or a residence permit or any other document authorizing  residence on the territory of Poland,
  • are holding a doctor's certificate which states the lack of contraindications against taking up education on chosen direction,
  • they are holding the insurance policy in the case of illness or results of accidents in the period of educating in Poland, or the European Health Insurance Card or they will become insured by the National Health Fund immediately after commencing the education.

Foreigners can be accepted at the university run in Polish if they finish an annual supplementary course for mastering Polish in appointed units, are holders of a Certificate of  Attainment in  Polish issued by the state commission , or they will get confirmation from the accepting university that their preparation and the degree of the acquaintance of Polish allows them for undertaking studies in Polish. Foreigners can be accepted for studies run in a foreign language if they have the document confirming the command of a foreign language, in which studies are conducted. Documents confirming the command of a foreign language are also certificates, diplomas, or documents stating graduating from the secondary school abroad, in which classes were conducted in the same foreign language in which the foreigner will be undergoing studies in Poland.

Foreigners can be accepted for the I stage or uniformed postgraduate master degree studies omitting principles of the recruitment applying to Polish citizens. Foreigners must have Polish Matura certificate or legalized certificate with apostille or other document obtained abroad authorizing the acceptance for the studies at universities in the country, under which system an institution issuing the certificate acts, recognized  - according to regulations in the matter of the recognition of school and maturity certificates recognized abroad or under an international agreement - as an equivalent to Polish Matura certificate.

"O ogłaszaniu aktów normatywnych i niektórych innych aktów prawnych" (Dz.U. 2007 r. Nr 68, poz. 449) akty prawne ogłaszane i wydawane w Dzienniku Ustaw i Monitorze Polskim. Ich wydawcą i dystrybutorem jest Kancelaria Prezesa Rady Ministrów - www.cokprm.gov.pl.
