In Poland all children are provided with the school obligation, irrespective of their legal status, that is also children of immigrants residing in Poland irregularly. The foreign child has the right to public schools in the commune area, respective for the place of residence.
A headmaster cannot refuse to accept the child to school. Foreigners who are liable to a school duty but whose knowledge of Polish is insufficient, have the possibility of attending free of charge Polish classes organized by the commune.
Such classes are organized at school in the form of a preparatory course if at least 15 foreigners agrees to participate in classes, or in the form of additional Polish lessons if there is fewer than 15 foreigners. Such classes can last up to 1 year. Learning should be organized in a manner enabling pupils to participate in compulsory educational classes. It cannot, however, be fewer than 2 school hours every week.
