Owner of a driving license issued abroad, which is specified in Road Traffic Conventions, can drive a suitable motorized vehicle in Poland for 6 months from the moment of the beginning of his temporary or permanent stay.
Owner of a driving license issued abroad can receive a driving license of a suitable category after returning the foreign document to the department issuing driving license.
If the driving licence issued abroad is not specified in the Road Traffic Conventions, the driver will have to take the theoretical exam and show a translation (made by sworn translator) of the foreign document.
Driving rights are given by a district governor (starosta) appropriate for the place of permanent or temporary residence of the applicant.
Driving licence, except the T-category driving license, entitles one to driving the vehicle specified in this document in the international traffic, unless the authorities of the given country require that the driver owns international driving license (given for maximally three years, based on one’s current driving licence).
