The discounts for travelling by public transport on regular passenger services performed by authorized bus and rail carriers are governed by the Act of June 20th, 1992 on discounts in the public transport (Journal of Laws 1992 No. 54 pos. 254, with amendments). The rules stated in the above-mentioned act do not apply to travellers travelling by EuroCity and InterCity in the international transportation, in the express coach transportation and urban communication. Furthermore, according to the article. 1a of the above-mentioned Act discounts in rail transportation apply only to travellers of the Class 2, only on certain categories of trains and on the basis of certain types of tickets.
Foreigners may benefit from the discounts for children, particularly under the age of 4, and for students. Children under 4 years of age are granted following discounts: 100% - when travelling by public train and by bus/ coach/ in standard and limited connections if a child does not use a separate seat, and 78% discount in standard and limited coach connections if a child uses a separate seat. To prove the right for a discount for a child a parent must provide proof of a child’s age, such as a child’s passport or a parent’s passport provided that the child is placed in it.
Students not older than 26 years of age and holders of the valid Card of the Pole are entitled to the discount of 37% when using public slow, fast and express trains. A document certifying the student’s status is the student ID card (issued by the Polish university) or an international student card (ISIC). If the student's age is not indicated in the card, he/she must present another document that will certify his/her age, such as a passport or a residence permit.
