One could also transport plants, for many of which one has to present a fitosanitary certificate. That document has to be formed in one of the languages used in the EU. However, customs officers on the Polish frontier posts accept those documents written in Russian.
The detailed list of the protected plants, as well as those, which cannot be brought to Poland, is available as an attachment to the directive by the Council of Europe 2000/29/EC of 8 May 2000 on protective measures against the introduction into the Community of organisms harmful to plants or plant products and against their spread within the Community. This legal act can be found on the website: www.eur-lex.europa.eu
Small amounts of plants are not subject to the control. According to the Polish frontier guards and customs officers, the term small, means:
- fresh vegetables and fruits (excluding potatoes) - not more than 5 kg
- decorative plants - not more than 50 items
- Christmas trees - 1 item
- parts of coniferous plants - not more than 5 items
