Tickets inspections can be done by authorized persons – ticket inspectors in civilian clothes, in public transport and guards dressed in navy blue uniforms in trains. In some cases, e.g. in coaches of PKS (the national carrier), tickets can be controlled by a driver and sometimes by inspectors.
NOTE! On your demand, an inspector should show you an appropriate ID card.
On inspector’s demand, you should show your ticket (you should keep it until the end of trip) and in case of having rights to a reduced ticket, you should also show an appropriate document confirming such right. An inspector may also ask you to show your ID card to check consistence of information in a subscription ticket with an ID card.
If you do not have a ticket or any ID card, you might be taken to a police station in order to determine your identity and then - issue a fine.
Fines for travelling without a proper ticket vary depending on a city and a mean of transport and can amount from tens of up to few hundred zlotys.
