Act on the Polish language introduces the possibility of obtaining by foreigners and Polish citizens permanently residing abroad, an official statement certifying knowledge of the Polish language . The exam is passed before the state commission. Within the period 2004-2008 nearly 1,500 people took advantage of that opportunity.
The exam takes place in Poland or abroad under the condition that the group of at least 20 people is gathered. Costs of the exam differ depending on the level of advancement. The cost of the exam at the basic level is (B1) - 60 EUR, intermediate (B2) - 80 EUR, advanced (C2) – 100 EUR. The fee for issuing the certificate is 20 EUR paid after being informed about passing the exam. The document certifying knowledge of the Polish language is a certificate issued by the committee.
Examinations are conducted at three levels: basic (B1), intermediate (B2) and advanced (C2). One has to be 16 in order to take the exam at the level of B1 and B2, in the case of C2 level - 18 years of age. The organizational unit responsible for the examination is the Bureau for Education Recognition and International Exchange at the Ministry of National Education and Sport.
The exam consists of five equivalent parts checking the skills in speaking and writing. To pass it one must obtain 60% of each part of the exam.
