The Card of the Pole has been worked out as a document confirming one's affiliation with a national Polish citizens' union. The Card of the Pole can be given to a person who, on the day of submitting an application has the citizenship of one of the former USRR countries, or has a stateless person status in one of these countries and, in the same time, meets the following criteria:
- is able to show his/her Polish identity through, at least, a basic knowledge of Polish language, which one considers his/her native language, as well as knowledge and cultivation of Polish traditions and customs;
- in the presence of an RP consul, he should submit a written declaration of his affiliation with Polish Nation
- will prove that at least one of his parents, or grandparents, or both great-grandparents is or was of Polish nationality or had Polish citizenship. Instead, one can submit a certificate of an entitled Polish organization from one’s country of residence confirming one’s active engagement in activities concerning Polish language and culture, or Polish national minority, for at least 3 years until the moment of applying for a visa.
The Card of the Pole can also be granted to a person whose origin has been confirmed with legal validity, according to articles included in the Repatriation Act from 9.11.2000 (Journal of Laws No. 53, pos. 532 with amendments).
The Card of the Pole applications are received by a consul, appropriate according to the place of residence of an applicant.
